Best Friends Hurricane Relief Adoption Festival at Celebration Station February 6, 2006 : 12:00 AM Best Friends Pet Adoption Festival Feb. 11 and 12
Celebration Station will be the site of a Best Friends Pet Adoption Festival Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12.
There will be hundreds of dogs and cats available for adoption from local parish shelters as well as rescue organizations.
LA-SPCA, Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter and the St. Bernard Parish Animal Shelter will be on hand as well as Southern Animal Foundation, Best Friends Animal Society and AnimalRescueNewOrleans.com.
The idea, say event organizers, is to make it easy for the public to locate the perfect pet, find homes for as many homeless pets as possible and to relieve shelter crowding.
The festival will be at Celebration Station, 5959 Veterans Memorial Blvd., in Metairie from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. There will be food and refreshments plus gift bags and goodies to go home with every adopted pet.
Volunteers are needed. If you would like to volunteer for the event, please call Cari Kestrel at 504-218-9731.
The adoption festival is hosted by Best Friends Animal Society. The festival is part of the national campaign to encourage shelter adoptions, 1-800-Save-A-Pet-Katrina.com.
Roicy/Lafayette, LA pics are up
Date: Tue, 7 Feb 2006 22:23:15 -0600 From: "Debbie" <rescuerealtor @cox .net> Roicy/Lafayette, LA pics are up....please take a look at these great animals....black dogs are wonderful week!!!! Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info/
Missy just posted pics, so please take a look and see if you can help anybody. Deadline will be Thursday, Feb 7 at 5 with PTS Friday for those not held over(depends on space and how many are in stray hold). I AM BEGGING, please do not call the shelter unnecessarily or be ugly to the staff. They have had some really mean phone calls and this reflects poorly on rescue and on me personally. It could easily cause the rescue program to be stopped. While it is wonderful that Roicy is receiving so much international attention, it is causing lots and lots of problems. The facility is very small, and there are always many animals. They are very understaffed. Please make an extra effort to be kind to the staff...they are good people. Land has been secured for a wonderful new shelter which is in the planning stages, but for now, there is not much they can do if people continue to abandon their animals and there is no space for them. All we can do is try to get these animals out. Let's show the shelter that the senior animals are adoptable by getting them out. Rescue can pull anytime, but must be at the shelter by 3PM. Non profit paperwork and spay/neuter policy of org must be faxed in advance to Virginia at 337-291-7051. Please make an effort to abide by the rules, because again, if you don't it will reflect poorly on rescue in general. Please come in with your Petfinder page and the animals you want circled, your org address for the chip, and CASH. Rabies must be given within 72 hrs, and proof of rabies and spay/neuter must be sent into the shelter within 30 days. Also, if your org pulls something, please let me know so that individuals who wish to might have a chance to thank you with a donation. This is what Missy has to say:
- There are again great dogs. Kennel 1 is very old I think she may not see well. Elmo says she gets around just fine!
- Kennel 9 Husky mix has the malnourished foot flipper thing going on. He does not look like he will be big like a husky. Poor guy was so sad. I think that his paws can be splinted and great nutrition be given and it may be correctable....but ???That is what my 14 yr old daughter has learned from Animal Planet...and remembered right when she saw the picture!
- Kennel 12 ready for this??? 11 year old rat terrier mix (about 30 pounds) was owner surrendered, he sits, shakes, is housetrained AND good with kids. He kept getting out so the surrendered him. Does someone do geriatrics???
- Yellow Lab is GREAT...just look at that face.
- Lady in Waiting in 5 is a wonderful dog she was so patient with the puppies and looks tired like she wants to be pampered now. Missy
A HUGE THANK YOU TO AUTHOR JIM DAVIS WHO IS SLEEPING IN A VAN WITH 10 ROICY DOGS TONIGHT ON THE WAY TO CALIFORNIA AND UTAH. WE WILL ALL BUY YOUR BOOK!!!!
REMINDER....KURANDA BEDS STILL NEEDED...ALL SIZES.
