PBRC: Assistance for Hurricane Pit Bulls

Date: Wed, 16 Nov 2005 16:36:30 -0000
From: "Michelle D" <SpeuterYourDog @gmail .com>
Subject: Assistance for Hurricane Pit Bulls

Hello,

My name is Michelle Daigle. I am a volunteer with Pit Bull Rescue Central (PBRC). PBRC is networking with different organizations that were responsible for rescues in the hurricane affected areas, as well as a number of people in the pit bull community to make every effort possible to reunite owners and pets.

If you know of an owner whose pit bull is still missing from the disaster and they have internet access, please ask them to fill out a Lost Dog Report here: http://pbrc.bullydogs.info/katrinamissingdog.html. And if they have photos of their dog, photo's can be emailed to: mailto:pbrckatrina@gmail-dot-com. Owners should include their name and their dogs' name.

All of our Lost Dog Reports are posted on our website: http://www.pbrc.net/katrinalostdogs/katrinalost.htm . Shelters and rescues have been notified to check our website for any dogs that match the Lost Dog Reports, in hopes that we can reunite owners with their pets.

We are also accepting Lost Dog Reports on behalf of the owners. If you are working with an owner, feel free to complete a Lost Dog Report and email photo's to us.

We understand that many hurricane victims have to go libraries and utilize other public computers to try to search for their pets and they have limited computer time. PBRC has created an owner resource page to facilitate quicker and easier searches for the owner. We are adding to this page daily, as new information and sources are brought to our attention. Please visit: http://www.pbrc.net/katrinalostdogs/katrinaresource.htm

PBRC also has funding assistance available for hurricane pit bulls. To find out more, please visit: http://www.pbrc.net/fund/katrina.htm#Gethelp . Assistance is available for veterinary care, boarding assistance, food/crates and spay/neuter.

Do any of these dogs look familiar? Their owners are desperately searching for them: http://www.pbrc.net/katrinalostdogs/katrinalost.htm

Lastly, please direct any inquiries to: mailto:PBRC_HurricanePitBulls@yahoogroups-dot-com

Best Regards,
Michelle Daigle

MaryAnn Gibson: Let's be Prepared, Upcoming Seminars

From: "Natioanl Disaster Animal Relief" <NDAR @columbus .rr .com>
Subject: Let's be Prepared, Upcoming Seminars

Hi everyone,

It's funny, coming home from New Orleans doesn't seem to mean that I really left New Orleans. Everyday I'm aware that there's so much more to do and I wish I had accomplished more. How can I help from home? Well, I've helped with some reunification, and I'm fostering, so now what? Maybe Education... so we can do it better next time.

I've gotten busy and am planning to host some seminars. I've tried to choose topics based on the needs I saw amongst the rescuers, including: survival skills, hydration, basic Search and Rescue principles, orienteering and more.

My goal is to offer these seminars before the next hurricane season.

I have been looking for some truly great instructors and I've had some awesome luck, one of the biggest names in Search and Rescue has offered to teach: Survival on a Disaster Site (more details to follow)

I also plan to host a North American Search and Rescue (NASAR) class, this is a highly respected organization that offers classes and certifications. The Basics of Search and Rescue is a good class, it offers; survival, search and rescue principles, and basic orienteering. Passing the test gives the certification of SAR TECH III. (more details to follow)

The third seminar I hope to host will be taught in conjunction with the Ohio EMA and it's contents will be announced as soon as I have them.

All of the classes will be offered in the Central Ohio area, all costs will be kept to a minimum.

In case you're looking to learn more, like I am, I've also searched the internet and am signed up to take at least 3 seminars from other organizations. My feeling is the more we know, the more lives we can save.

I hope to have a website up soon, you can watch that for details. I will also post more details as I get them, and you're more than welcome to write with questions and suggestions.
