Jun 26, 2006 - Mother needs help returing to home
My Mother lives in Long Beach, Ms. I am here trying to find resources to help her get back into her home. We need help with finishing the house so she can move back in. She had some insurance but it was not nearly enough. If anyone can assist us please respond to this. She is ill and becoming disoriented from the displacement. She also recently lost my brother, her only son and his son died in a freak automobile accident two months earlier, which I know greatly adds to her distress. We need the walls finished, the floors and the laundry room built. Her washing machine is outside as well as her dryer and both are being used when it doesn't rain. The family is in Fema trailors, which are appreciated, but my Mother needs to get back into her home. thank you so much. I did not know this existed until today, it is amazing if this enables people to find resources. Bless those resposible for it.

User:Bodlesx Revision as of 13:50, 26 Jun 2006 Help is still direly needed / any help in these areas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. Came to this Katrina help site before and posted. Many many e-mail came with offers of help but all that was sent was counterfeit money orders, checks, and gift certificates. I had the bank check them out before I deposited, thank God I did. All offers had instructions to send money to another place after cashing. It would have left the bank account overdrawn on this end and all the money I would have had yo pay, including the money I would have sent on as they requested. Greed has people taking advantage of people already devastated. So beware of this. All I received were fakes. I don't think anyone wanting to help, will ask to have money sent when they could easily do that themselves. That was why I was so leery and had it checked out first. The coast is deluded with these kinds of offers and our e-mail addresses were gotten from this Katrina Help site. So people beware.
Not one sincere offer has come. My mother is in great need. Any who is sincere please respond.
Jun 26, 2006 - Family in need of assistance

Jun 24, 2006 - Need help with transportation, rent, and home restoration
Ramona Reese 605 E. Hickory Lane Siloam Springs, AR 72761 (479) 524-8861 mailto:crazymelanie@hotmail.com
Help Needed!!!!
My name is Ramona Reese. I live in Arkansas at this time due to Hurricane Katrina. After the hurricane, Superintendent Compass came to the middle of Bullard and Haynes and told my neighbors and I that we had to leave immediately because they were going to blow the levees at 5 o'clock that evening. I did not want to leave, but we had to go.
Now, I am living in Siloam Springs, AR and FEMA has denied my eligibility for rental assistance. I have been paying my rent here since the month of April. All that FEMA continues to tell me is that I am not eligible.
I have faxed them all of the information that they've asked of me. My mortgage company has told me that I cannot get the money provided by the insurance company because I could not get contractor. In New orleans, it is very hard to find a contractor at the time. They also said that I could not get the money because I was late on the mortgage payment. At first it was okay with them, but it seems that since the media is no longer spotlighting this situation, their words have changed.
I have a job, but it's not enough. I had to ask the church to help me as well. I would love to go back to New Orleans, but FEMA does not want to help me. My insurance company has taken the money and used it to pay off my house. It's also hard to get to and from work without a car. Here in Siloam Springs, there is no transit system, so I need a car to get to work. My rent is due on the 1st and I don't get paid until the 15th of the month. I am also having trouble with the landlord. It is getting much harder on my family.
Can you tell me who can help? Salvation Army said that they are no longer helping Katrina victims. I also have two children that are in school here. My daughter has also gotten a job for the month of July to help. I want to go back, but this is her junior year of high school and the schools in New Orleans are not in good shape. In New Orleans, she attended St. Mary's Academy and was an A-student. I need someone to help me or tell me what to do now.
When I did go back to New Orleans for a visit, someone had broken into my home and stolen appliances, equipment and a lot of my property in general. In addition, in the year 2000, I lost my oldest son in the Marines. I found all of his posessions thrown on the floor. All I could do was sit on the floor and cry. Why and how could someone do something like this to people?
The people in Siloam Springs have been wonderful to my family and I. Ray Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale has helped us out alot. But we cannot continue to run to the church for help. No one else seems to care anymore.
I would love to complete my house, but I have no help or money to do so. Can someone out there help us? I know there are alot of people trying to misuse and take advantage of a bad situation, but not me. I just need help.
Jun 20, 2006 - Mother urgently needs clothes and money for 3 children
Deaudre Penamon 307 South Holly St Hammond, LA 70403 [mailto:anodizer052@hotmail]
My name is Rahz. I am a struggling person trying to make ends meet here in Hammond, Louisiana. I am losing this battle with paying bills, meeting the rent on time, and keeping my kids in school dress codes. If anyone is reading these messages and you are able to send clothing for children ages 6mos., 4 years, and 12 years (size 14). Pampers, wipes, milk, socks, tissue, coupons for discounted items, or berrettes, khaki pants (size14). Recently through a service similar to this one I found a job.... it was on the computer doing telemarketing for WEST TELECOMMUNICATIONS. This has provided a small bi-weekly income so I have been able to get a paycheck. I do this work from the computer at home and that has provided me with the opportunity to stay home with the baby saving in child care. However, an income of 750 dollars is not enough for me to properly care for 3 children. If any small donations can made to pay an exact bill then please consider my plea. I am trying to get my family and life up and running but we did not plan for Katrina. Hurricane season is here again, so please contact by email mailto:anodizer052@hotmail.com or write

Jun 18, 2006 - Gulfport: Need help with down payment on home
PLEASE HELP US GET A HOME ..TIME IS RUNNING OUT.. Lynda Wood 15444 N. Big Hill Road Gulfport, Ms. 39503 mailto:lynda450sl@netzero.com
I am a divorced, disabled, mom of a great 13 year old son and have a 71 yr old disabled mom that lives with us. We have been staying in a FEMA camper trailer since December. My young son and I have been doing volunteer work to help our Gulf Coast since the storm. I have offered a bid on a V.A. repo home and was accepted. The home is over 25 years old and needs some repairs. That is not a problem. My problem is that since my bid was accepted, I am having problem getting my finance to go through. I have so many debts and live on a fixed disablilty social security income, they say if I don't have a substantial down payment I won't be able to get the house. I am pleading for help for my family to get this home. I trust in the Lord. He has looked over us and kept us safe. He has given us love to share with others. He has given us the strength to help others without asking for anything in return. If we could raise money for the down payment, it would be a blessing for us. We truly need a home. We could continue the Lord's work from our home. The closing date has been set for July 2, 2006. PLEASE help us. My prayers go out to all. God Bless You All. email .. mailto:lynda450sl@netzero.com

Jun 16, 2006 - Send a post card to say you haven't forgotten
I have a very simple request, if someone would just send a card to say have a nice day we have not forgotten. A postcard, Hallmark, crayon. We will cherish anything you send because at least we know you are out there knowing we are here. Knowing our struggle everyday. You can keep our hopes and dreams alive. Thank you and God bless you.

I am a 24 yrs old single mother of 3 ages 8, 5 &3. Me and my kids are alone here in Dallas. We evacuated alone and we ended up here. My kids father is deceased. My oldest is an Honor student at his school and the youngest two stay at home with me. All I want is my kids to be happy, the same way they were when we were home in New Orleans. I have always worked hard to provide for us,I admit I started early having kids but that only made me a stronger individual. But now I am in need of financiel help. FEMA haven't done anything for us and we lost everything. I am on my last appeal and all I do is pray that this time they will do the right thing. I am alcohol and drug free, All I am commited to is taking good care of my kids that's all. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME.

Jun 10, 2006 - Evacuee in Georgia needs employment, clothing and furniture
I am asking for help
Helped needed to find employment, clothing and furniture. In December 2005 my son helped me to relocated to New Jersey. While in New Jersey I began seeing a Therapist who has helped me beyond my dreams. I was unable to work because of my fears and did not know where I would spend my future years. I fear going back to Mississippi and being a part of another storm, New Jersey was not affordable to me. I now plan to spend the rest of my life in Georgia. I am still contacting FEMA but they are not helping me with rental assistance.
Thank you for taking time to read. God bless you.

May 6, 2006 - Have transport, desperately need donated hay for horses/cattle
The 3000+ cattle and 400 horses that survived Hurricane Rita in the coastal area of Louisiana in Vermilion Parish have made it after 8 rough months. Due to the drought, grazing land is not available as expected. These farmers are desperate for hay. We have transport help if we can find donor(s) for hay. Can you help? We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit group and donations are tax deductible. Thank you. http://www.vermilionanimalaid.org/
May 6, 2006 - Returned family in Gretna, LA needs help in any way possible
My husband, daughter and I evacuated St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana the morning of August 28. We went to my Mother's house in Pascagoula, MS. What little we had taken from home was lost in the storm surge there (my mom's house had never seen water in over 50 years). My husband's leg became infected from the nasty water (he has psoriasis). He was in the hospital for 5-6 weeks -two surgeries to remove dead flesh from his leg and eventually a skin graft to help it heal. The conditions in Pascagoula were bad enough when he was discharged that we headed back to the New Orleans area and home. Since we lost both of our vehicles to Katrina we were lucky enough to buy a used van. Lucky because that is where we lived for a while (along with our dog). We finally found an apartment in Gretna, La which is across the river from N.O. in October. About that time my 15 yr. old and I were able to go check out the house we had rented for the last six years. We couldn't tell the coffee table from the sofa. Everything was crusted in mud, ceiling matter and who knows what. It looked as though someone had taken a huge spoon and stirred my furniture... what wasn't in the wrong room was stacked in no particular order. Everything we had ever touched was gone. Even my daughter's handprint from 1st grade. EVERYTHING. I'm told that while at my Mother's house the water came up slowly to about 3-4 feet, the houses in St. Bernard were covered within minutes. Well, that's done and we are doing the best we can. I have never asked for anything before and I am not sure how to go about it. My husband can no longer work & is waiting for SSI. The little we got from FEMA is gone and we are waiting to be approved for rental assistance. Rent was due today. When we finally got an electric bill it was almost $1000.00. I've paid about 1/3. I've held out as long as I can to ask. My husband and daughter do not know what I am doing, he can’t help me and I don't want her to be afraid. Please, if anyone out there can assist us in any way, please reach out. We are good people and have always done what we can for others. I'm 50 and I'm desperate. If you can help in any way, please send me an e-mail at pinacolada70043@aim.com. Or call me at 504-366-0567. May God Bless.

Mar 27, 2006 - Father of 4 needs help rebuilding properties
I am a single parent of four children under the age of 11 years old. Like many others my life and the lives of my children were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. A lot has happened since this Hurricane: My father, whom I cared for and was separated from during the aftermath of the storm. died two weeks after our reunion. I used every dime I had to bury my father because his body was to be placed in a mass unnamed and unmarked grave. My children have nightmares and now have a phobia of rain or anything having to do with water. My problems are endless, but my faith is strong! My father left his house and his church (he was a preacher) to me and my children. I'm seeking help in rebuilding these properties. I am seeking help for my children so that their lives can become better. Nothing is more important to me than them. If You can help please contact me at mailto:mytweety2975@yahoo-dot-com (@yahoo.com) Thank You User:Cwalke
Feb 25, 2006 - Single mother of three needs help
I am a single mother of three and I lost my home and my cafe to Hurricane Rita, my insurance company still hasn't sent me a dime (almost 6 months later) and I recently had surgery so I am unable to go to work. I have 2 families from New Orleans living here due to their loss of home from Katrina and I also have 3 families from Cameron, LA living here in campers. We have not gotten any help from FEMA, food stamp office or any other assistance. Although we have pulled our resources, things are getting really tough here. The local electric company has been just raking us over the coals with $600-$800 light bills every month. We need clothes, food, pet supplies or anything would be appreciated, we just don't know where else to go. We can't get help from anyone and there are people here that are doing without their medications because they can't afford them. If anyone can help in anyway it would be very appreciated. Feb 12, 2006 - Long Beach,MS: Mother needs help finding a house
Hi, Im looking for help in Mississippi. Some what from Hurricane Katrina, but then again not. As we are all aware of here in the South, the hurricane turned our world upside down. However not even a month later, I lost my grandfather to cancer. Like everyone else, im sure, it hasnt been a good 6 months. When my grandfather died, his house went to his step son for financial reasons. My Mother and Uncle currently live in this house. They have lived there for 8 or 9 years caring for my grandfather, or at the time, just making sure he ate and took care of himself. On 02/10/06 the step brother gave them a formal eviction notice effective 06/01/06. Very thoughtfull of him I know. My mother has always wanted to move back to Long Beach Ms. Thats where she was born and raised. She has always said that when Papa passed back to Long Beach she would be. My mother has raised me, cared for her mother who died in 1993, and cared for her father who passed 09/20/05. My question I guess would be is there anyone that would be willing to help my mother find a house or build a house in Long Beach. My mother is currently working for the Long Beach Police Department, she makes OK money, but she, like alot of the U.S didnt think about her credit and its pretty much shot. I would like to find out just what organizations are out there for people like my mom. She turns 60 on Valentines Day and I would like to see her and My Uncle in the same house. I would like to see both of them Happy!!! They both deserve it. They have both always thought of others before they have thought of themselves. I was very blessed to have them. You can email me @ DeVus24@yahoo.com Im not necessarily looking for a hand out for my mom and uncle as much as I am resources on organizations that can help. The house would have to be financed, and they dont exactly have that much money. Please email me with some kind of response even if you cant help. Thank You UPDATE 02-14-06: My mother said today that she would live in Gulfport, Pass Christian or Long Beach, Ms as long as its relatively close to I-10. Today is her birthday.

My sister is a single mother of three girls ages 12-8-6 and I hate that I'm here in Atlanta and not in Alabama to help her. Her house was flooded and she has to get clothes and things for her and her girls. She is a big woman and it's hard for her to clothe herself so she always focuses on her girls. She has become depressed trying to rebuild her life. She has all the beds, but one needs a twin mattress. The Salvation Army ran out and now she can't afford to buy one. Oct 18, 2005 - Child Advocacy Centers of the Gulf Coast Need Help
From: blogan7061@aol.com mailto:blogan7061@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2005 10:51 AM To: Shawn McEniry Subject: Gulf Coast Center Katrina update!
October 18, 2005
Dear National Children's Alliance members,
To all of you who have kept all of us in your thoughts and prayers after the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Katrina, please accept our heartfelt thanks. We are keeping our spirits as high as possible and the calls and emails from each of you have helped more than you can ever know. We are so very thankful for your kind offers of help and assistance.
As I'm sure you can imagine, our most immediate need is for cash donations to replace revenue and matching funds that will not be available to us any longer. This is so important to keep our programs up and going in this interim crisis period. The majority of our local supporters have been destroyed also; so therefore, we are very worried about the Center's cash flow and ability to match federal funds that we currently have in place.
Oct 1, 2005 - Help Katrina Pets from your home with just a computer
Help Katrina Pets from your home with just a computer 22:21 Date: Sat, 01 Oct 2005 22:21:01 -0300 From: angelamacdonald mailto:angelamacdonald@eastlink-dot-ca Subject: Help Katrina Pets from your home with just a computer 1.) CRITICAL: DATA ENTRY PEOPLE TO UPDATE RESCUE LISTS *need fax machine
CONTACT: Alvin (at Lamar-Dixon) 225-647-3340 *Alvin is coordinating data input at Lamar-Dixon. Tell her you are responding to Jane Garrison’s alert, distributed by Brenda (Kinship Circle) on behalf of Jane.info@kinshipcircle.org
LOCATION: Work from your home.
VOLUNTEER NEEDS/SITUATION: Critical need for data entry volunteers to help update rescue lists. Jane needs data entry people who can input information, from 7pm to 1am, starting right now. You will enter data at http://www.dogdetective.com. Alvin will explain details about how to do this.
If you cannot go to LA, here is your chance for HANDS-ON HELP reuniting storm victims with their pets. I know there are people out there who can do this. Let’s not let the animals down. Many of you know who Jane Garrison is--the veteran rescuer, volunteering for HSUS on the front lines to save animals. She has sidestepped politics to plead for volunteers for hurricane animals still trapped or roaming. Today (10/1/05) I spoke with Jane at great length. I am counting on the hundreds of you who have inquired about volunteering to step forward NOW.
This is the status of Lamar-Dixon in Gonzales today: The state-designated shelter is closed. No new animal intake.
However, Jane and rescue units are still operating in full force. Animals have to be brought elsewhere. (Jane Garrison is not employed by HSUS. She is an HSUS volunteer).
Data Entry and Search/Rescue will continue from Lamar-Dixon until October 15, 2005.
New rescues brought to Winn Dixie staging area need transport/foster.
NO animals will be released from Lamar-Dixon itself.

Katrina Help Please
My name is Tonya and I live in Pascagoula, Mississippi. My husband and I were hit pretty hard by Hurricane Katrina. We have a 5 year old son who has severe allergies. We had to leave our home until power came back on since my son can't stand the heat. He breaks out and we decided to get him out of there until things were better. Unfortunately, we did not have flood coverage and our homeowners insurance is not covering most of the damage to our home. We have applied for help with FEMA but have not received any help yet. They referred us to the Small Business Administration to apply for a loan to complete repairs. We had approx. 14 inches of water in our home so we lost most of our furniture and a lot of personal things. We have salvaged what we could but most things molded so quickly, we had to get them out. I am trying to find out what other organizations I might be able to contact for help. The amount that my homeowners insurance covered is not near enough to repair our damage and replace just the basics that we lost. We are currently waiting on a camper from FEMA so that my husband can begin ripping out walls and replacing insulation. My son can't be in the home while this is being done. If anyone knows of any organizations or companies I can contact for help, please email me. I would appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you very much. trlsleaf@datasync.com Tonya Lee 3502 Nathan Hale Ave Pascagoula, MS 39581

The book drive will augment the resources that Reader To Reader currently devotes to those states through its ongoing Louisiana and Mississippi Book Projects.

Most of the schools that we serve in New Orleans have been destroyed or all their contents severely damaged,? says Reader To Reader, Inc.’s executive director, David Mazor. “The damage is unprecedented and we must make an all out effort to replace these resources. Right now, food, medicine and shelter are of primary concern, but we must also look towards the longer term and the educational resources that will need to be replaced.?
Book donations should be appropriate for grades preK-8 and must be in new or gently used condition.

Help Journalists in Louisiana
(From Poynter.org (http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=68&aid=88154)) Times-Picayune managing editor Peter Kovacs says that many print and broadcast journalists have made Baton Rouge a base of operation and what they need more than anything right now is a place to stay within about 30 miles of the city. If you can provide journalists with a place to stay -- or know someone who can -- e-mail your contact information to webstaff@poynter.org (mailto:webstaff@poynter.org) and we will pass along the message. If you are a journalist/journalism organization seeking a place to stay (or know of one that is), e-mail us (mailto:webstaff@poynter.org) your contact information. We'll do our best to match up those who need help with those who can give help.
Assistance Needed for Resident in the City
My daughter and a friend are at her home at 123 South Solomon Street in New Orleans (a block off Canal) and need to get a boat ride to One Canal Place where she has parked her truck on the seventh parking level. IF the truck is still there, it is full of gas and she can drive out, but the ONLY BOAT they saw today was already full. She has a cell phone, but no way to recharge, so she only turns it on as she tries to call out. We have been unable to call her from Virginia even when her phone is on because all the circuits (504) are busy. Is anyone in the New Orleans area able to notify someone to go to her house? IF someone can call her locally her cell number is 504 669-8966. She has some food and water and they are on the second floor above the water, but they need some way out as the water is 8 or 10 feet high outside. If anyone needs further information they can call me (Alice) at 804-425-6556 or my cell 804-380-0841. (Posted 5pm, EST on 9/2/05)

I have several cousins (approx 12 people including small children) who gathered at 1 residence together. They were able to speak with a cousin on Sunday am, they said they were all in the attic with 3 ft of water in the attic at that time. They are in the 9th ward on St Maurice. The names of the some of the adults are Veronica & Charles Peters, Linda & Sydney Manuel, and Tina Ball. Thanks for any assistance/prayers you can provide. Supply Convoy from Ohio via Pa/WV: Need company for the drive and supplies
I am in Ohio looking for assistance in driving as much food and potable water down to the children waiting for transportation and evacuation. It has become apparent that the situation is not being handled as needed and the time has come for us as ordinary citizens to stand up and do something NOW. I am hoping for one or two volunteers from Ohio, PA , or WV to Grab what non-perishables and water we can (distilled water can be had for 50C a gallon) and literally drive as far into the evacuation staging area as possible and distribute what we can to families of children in need. I, although not well off by any stretch of anyone’s imagination am willing to spend $1000 in supplies and assist in transporting them DIRECTLY to the area of need. I need assistance in the transportation. Simply put.
I am under no illusionCaddo when it comes to the overwhelming need there, it is however all I can do, and I am willing to DO it not just talk about it. I can also promise NO person we give aid to will say "No thanks this isn’t enough" The simple fact is we , who are able need to stand up and act as it is becoming frighteningly more apparent by the hour that"officals" are overwhelmed or incapable of acting as quickly as needed by a disaster of this magnitude and the children and the elderly, the one not able to fend for themselves are suffering the most. Please contact me via email at wertman@hotmail.com
Planning to Leave Saturday Morning and Return on Monday, you might miss a football game, or a cook out but you may also make life a little better for a child.
I am sure you can think of a 100 reasons NOT to
- Others are dealing with it
- I cant really help enough to make a difference
- I have other plans
- Its dangerous
The problem is everyone is already giving the same excuses and nothing is getting done. This would be an in and out operation, drop off what we can and that all. Not into the flooded areas but rather the children waiting for evacuation that haven’t eaten or drank clean water in days. This is not political, this is not religious, this is being a decent citizen and standing up to action, something that Americans it would now seem thinks means watching TV and feeling pity but nothing more.
If you are able, in good health and able to help provide transportation PLEASE contact me. I don’t want your money I want your back, your spirit and some driving for 2 1/2 days simply help in transporting and distributing what supplies we can, To be honest it will probably take less than an hour to actually distribute, but think if you were in those children’s places what that would mean, a snack, some water, and maybe just maybe some hope.
All we can do is what we can do, this is all I can do, but when its over I will be able to say I actually DID something, not talked about it at the office, not watched it on TV, not thought about giving to the red-cross, but I did something. Please contact me via email at wertman@hotmail.com My HOPE is to Leave Saturday around Noon and Return by Monday at 3:00pm
