With all the reasearch I have been doing in the last week I am surprised I didn't find this site sooner. I have been tryng to cross reference names and information across what I thought to be 15-20 different list sites total...several lists that I have been given and found on the net I thought I was the only one doing this till I found an article about this site last night. I thought I came up with the idea-and no one at these rescues around Dallas were thinking to perform this task and probably wouldn't listen to my advise once given. I (ignorantly) thought I was taking on this task alone. I work in a facility that allows me access to information not privy to most-so I have been trying to use my resouces available to me and knowlege of the net to put some of these confused and traumitized people(families) together so they can get past the confusion part and start working on a plan to re-establish themselves as a family unit. From what I gather FEMA and state authorities are estimating 2 months for this. FEMA is giving $2000.00 jump start to families in need. That is enough for a down payment on a car(used) and first months rent for most. Here in Dallas/Fort Worth, local agencies are setting up job fairs and recruiting centers to help place people in jobs right away.

So far I have been able to put several families together that were seperated by a couple of states away. Only one of these people that contacted me was actually calling the correct facilty to locate this child, and according to her(not proven) she claims she was calling randomly not based on any information from her evacuators (is that a word?) but because she had heard her newborn had been flown to one of 2 cities.Remarkably they called me based on what my facility provides here in Dallas. My facility was not the first place these folks should have picked to start searching, but fortunatly they reached me-and I am willing to take time and get them on the right track to finding and locating info on family and friends. I know I can get alot more done faster if I have more accuate information to go on. If I have a legal name, location and DOB within a ten year radious, I've got a good start to go on. The problems I see, and I deal with on a daily basis as well, is name given is too common/too outladish therefor the name that person(s) family know them as is a simplified nickname which would not be listed on any actual leagal document or medical record. And DOB estimates not close enouogh to be accuate.
