NEW! Region Specific Help for Evacuees

Advanced Resource Network System, free for recovery use

PLEASE LIST ALL TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, ETC you can provide.

This technology will create a fully categorized and geocoded local asset map -anywhere. Equipment/tools, skills, and experience are all listable and searchable by distance. Many categories: *http://neighborring.org/types.php make search easy and we can add more. Tools from citizens and organizations are all mappable, and Rental fees can be charged. Users can also create message boards with limited geographic range.

Sharing or P2P rentals can vastly reduce cost and time of recovery and stimulate local economy. Remember FLORIDA http://www.usatoday.com/money/2004-11-22-florida-recovery_x.htm Tools were in severe shortage and hardware stores profited wildly. Americans spend about $140B/year renting construction tools from commercial sources. Let's put some of that back into the neighborhoods.

We are a nonprofit, listed in NetworkForGood, sponsored by TimeBanksUSA *TimeBanks.org and talking with USAFreedomCorps about serving as their asset mapping engine.

If you are a recovery/rebuilding organization PLEASE contact us at rebuild@NeighborRing.ORG - we can create a neighbor ring with your name and enable it to send alerts to everyone about new resources and members.

Food Stamps offer found at at eBay forum

Disaster Relief is available in the form of a food stamp EBT card (like a credit card) to anyone who lived in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I work for the Dept of Social Services and our office at 1525 Fairfield is open 24/7 to provide these disaster relief food stamp cards. To apply, the person in need needs to: Go to 1525 Fairfield, Room 101 (corner of Fairfield and Jordan) Bring a picture ID if you have it, SS card if you have that or a piece of mail or something with your address on it. You'll complete a one page simple application.

The cards are issued on site and the benefits will be available 4 hours after receipt. They can be used at any grocery store and are easy to use as they swipe in the credit card machine. You will be given a pin number when you apply.

This is NOT just for the poor. It is for anyone displaced by the storm. We are finding that many people might have large bank accts but they don't have access to them. Others are not home to receive their SS checks, etc. Even if they are staying with family or friends, having this card helps defray the cost of feeding them.

The benefit amounts for each household are as follows: 1. $149 2. $274 3. $393 4. $499 5. $592

The amount increases based on the amount of people in your family. I just listed the amounts for 1 to 5 member households. These benefits are available in all Parish offices in Louisiana but I believe Shreveport is the only one still open 24/7. I am not sure how much longer we'll have the nighttime hours but it will be at least through Tuesday. Mary Salvail, Caddo Office of Family Support

How to help for Katrina evacuees coming to Baltimore

Word is that about 1,000 evacuees may be coming to Baltimore soon, to the Clarence "Du" Burns arena in the Canton neighborhood. My wife and I are planning to mobilize the Canton Community Association (of which we're members) to help out.

Can you point me to any people or sites who can tell me what they will be most in need of, so we can start collecting it in advance? Including people to volunteer to help with setup, moving in, finding things in the neighborhood, etc. etc.

Any and all advice is appreciated. Please respond to me at: plagasse [at] patriot [dot] net or to Mary Jo Lazun at: mjlazun [at] patriot [dot] net.
